President Obama’s recent approval to the construction from the Cordoba Centre, an Islamic centre and Mosque close to the site in the September 11 attack for the twin tower attack has quite understandably raked up a massive controversy. The President says he will have based his approval about the basic principle of religious freedom, as as outlined by him there’s no reason why Muslims must be denied the legal right to build a place of worship on the given location. The move has been strongly opposed by many including retired FDNY Deputy Chief Al Santora father of Christopher the youngest victim of 9/11 who see this just as one insult to any or all those who lost their lives inside the ghastly terrorist attack. Supporters from the Cordoba centre however think a Mosque close to the site of attack would have been a testimony to America’s liberal credentials as well as the free spirit of New Yorkers especially. They argue that any steps with the government to prevent the construction in the mosque could provide it with an image of being bigoted and intolerant to Islam and push moderate Muslims into the fold of religious fanatics and extremists. Detractors in the Mosque however feel that establishing an Islamic centre including a Mosque can be donald trump t shirts seen as a victory by the same groups that planned and carried out the attack about the twin towers and present them a feeling of jubilation, they also believe Imam Feisal Al Rauf who is heading the initiative is not above board. Supporters with the Mosque however hold the view that the entire Muslim community is not blamed or held responsible for what a few terrorists did and the American public must not let itself be swayed by politicians who’re trying to make an issue of the proposed Mosque and divide people on religious lines. While much can be argued in preference of and against either side, we believe that the trump shirts right thing which a government which really wants to project itself to be neutral and non-religious can be to encourage the making of a ‘Peace memorial’ close to the site with the 9/11 attack where visitors could spend one minute in silent homage to the victims, meditate or perhaps go around the area. This will be better than creating a Church, Mosque or another place of worship and would also profit the government prevent any controversy.
